Erika Sears is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and owner of Sears Counseling LLC. She is originally from Las Cruces, NM and earned her Master's Degree in Social Work from New Mexico State University in 2008. She established Sears Counseling LLC in 2015, and has exclusively worked in private practice since 2016.
Erika's areas of expertise include treating behavioral issues, trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, communication, and family relational issues. She takes a client-centered, strengths-based approach in therapy and works closely with each client to identify their unique needs and approach to treatment.
In play therapy, she encourages clients to find their voice in a safe space, and enhance their ability to interact and function in all areas of life. Family therapy centers on helping all family members communicate their needs, concerns, and wishes in a healthy manner to overcome barriers, while providing parents with appropriate outlets and parenting interventions.
She has extensive experience working with children, adults and families in various settings including schools, medical clinics, client's homes, and the therapy office setting. She also has experience working with children and families involved with treatment foster care, child protective services/state custody, adoption, and juvenile probation. She has experience in treating individuals that present with symptoms of depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and PTSD.
Erika has been trained in EMDR, and has obtained EMDR-Basic Training Certification through an EMDRIA certified trainer. She strives towards learning new therapy modalities and is working towards her Registered Play Therapy certification to better assist clients that present with a history of complex trauma, and attachment issues.
